A History of Me Previous Next

On the Wednesday I went to South Kensington and spent the morning in the Science Museum pushing buttons which pump air into model of 19th century trains and make the wheels go round. There was also a geared model of a four drive electric motor with four gear levers. In the afternoon I went round The Imperial Institute, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Geological Museum - my stone was at a conference. (In the early 1950s I had found a chunk of dark green carborundum when visiting other relatives at Elsenham in Essex. We took it to the Geological Museum and I was persuaded to donate a large part of it to the museum - so I had expected to see it on disply somewhere.) Then I went to the Natural History Museum and ended up at the Kensington palace - all in one afternoon!

Thursday I went round the British Museum where I saw everything that there was to see. Then in the afternoon I went to the 'Discovery' which is Scott's first ship, built in Dundee. (It was owned by the Navy at that time and there was only limited public access.)
