Introduction and Index

I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures; that he was buried and that he was raised to life three days later, as written in the Scriptures... The truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death will also be raised. For just as death came by a man, in the same way the rising from death comes by means of a man. For just as all people die because of their union with Adam, in the same way all will be raised to life because of their union with Christ. - 7 Corinthians 15 v 3 - 4 & 20 - 22

We do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, so that through God's grace he should die for everyone. We see him now crowned with glory and honour because of the death he suffered. It was only right that God, who creates and preserves all things, should make Jesus perfect through suffering, in order to bring many sons to share his glory. For Jesus is the one who leads them to salvation. - Hebrews 2 v 9 - 10

Jesus said, "I am telling you the truth: whoever hears my words and believes in him who sent me has eternal life. He will not be judged, but has already passed from death to life. - John 5 v 24

Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins. Thank you that you have been raised to life. Thank you that these facts guarantee your teaching that those who hear what you say and believe in God who sent you already have eternal life. Thank you for the promise that, though our mortal bodies may die, our eternal souls will live and will be with you for ever.
