Introduction and Index

Jesus said, "This is how you should pray, "Our Father in heaven: may your holy name be honoured; may your kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need. Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us. Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One" - Matthew 6 v 9 - 13

Be alert, be on the watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams round like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm in your faith and resist him, because you know that your fellow-believers in the world are going through the same kind of sufferings. But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation. To him be power for ever! Amen.- 1 Peter 5 v 8-11

Whoever thinks he is standing firm had better be careful that he does not fall. Every test you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out. - 1 Corinthians 10 v 12 - 13

Master, I do want to be good - to do decent, loving and honest things - but so often the temptation to do wrong seems just too great. Please help me. Give me wisdom so that I can see temptation coming and take steps to avoid it. Give me self-control, so that the bad things in my life - my lust, my temper, my greed, and my pride - may not get the better of me. Please keep me safe when the Evil One attacks because I cannot go it alone. I am depending on you. Lord. There are times when I feel so weak, so ready to give in. Please give me strength and help me to win my personal battle against all that is wrong.
