Introduction and Index

Jesus said, "This is how you should pray, "Our Father in heaven: may your holy name be honoured; may your kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." - Matthew 6 v 9 - 10

Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me, because I have come down from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me that I should not lose any of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them all to life on the last day. For what my Father wants is that all who see the Son and believe in him should have eternal life. And I shall raise them to life on the last day. - John 6 v 35 -40

So then, my brothers, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship you should offer. Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God - what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect. - Romans 12 v 1 - 2

My heavenly Father, I do not have too much of a problem with "may your will be done" - except at times I do not know what it is that you want done. I have also to confess that at times I do know all too well what it is you want. The trouble is that it doesn't coincide with what I want! Please help me. Give me wisdom and understanding so that, even in difficult circumstances, I may be able to judge between right and wrong, between good and evil, between what pleases you and what offends you. And, once I do know the way you want me to go, give me the strength and courage to choose the hard but right course of conduct and to reject the easy but wrong one.
