Alasdair had his second operation on the 14th February 2001 - St Valentine's Day - so appropriate for a heart op! Unfortunately, although he made good progress (getting home after only 5 days), he was prone to getting infections - one of which developed into an abscess requiring his admission to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow while he was on his first trip to Scotland in July of that year and another, an inner ear this time, saw him in Ashford General Hospital, Kent, where this next photo was taken, at the end of the year.
